Roma vs Napoli: Match Preview

Marco Iacobucci Epp /

Roma entertain Serie A league leaders on Sunday evening in the Italian capital in the Derby Della Sole.

Roma was totally embarrassed in Norway on Thursday evening; it was an absolute horror show I am not going to sugarcoat it at all. The players looked like they did not want to be there and it showed in the performance on the pitch.

The mindset of the performance was not there. Roma got bullied and taken to the cleaners by a side in Bodo/Glimt who wanted it more. I feel sorry to the 400 fans who travelled to the north of Norway to watch that game and saw that horrific performance. The best the club can do is reimburse the fans who travelled to that game. The videos that went viral after the game shows the displeasure of the fans who travelled.

Thursday’s performance away in Norway just leaves a very bitter taste in the mouth, there were no words to describe the performance. At times, you could not believe what you were seeing. I wonder after this performance that some of the substitutes who played in that game will be looking for new clubs in January.

Napoli come into town full of confidence with a 100% record in Serie A to start the season. 8 wins out of 8 and hoping to extend the streak to 9 out of 9 against Roma on Sunday evening. Tomorrow will be the perfect time to play Roma after the European embarrassment on Thursday evening.

Napoli have been so impressive in Serie A, not so much in the Europa League, the only blemishes on Luciano Spalletti‘s record this season is in the Europa League. A fighting spirited comeback draw in Leicester and then a disappointing defeat at home to Spartak Moscow. But they bounced back with an emphatic home win over Legia Warsaw. In Serie A it has been a different story, Napoli have been fantastic to watch. They have blown away sides with so much ease and so much confidence. The players are reaping the rewards from a fantastic start to the season.

Luciano Spalletti is the Napoli coach and has been working wonders with a squad of players who may have been underachieving in the last couple of seasons. They were unlucky not to finish in the top 4 last season under the guideship of Gennaro Gattuso. Missing out on the top 4 on the final day must have been a bitter pill to swallow. Spalletti has come in and changed the mindset. His record overall is fantastic, 9 wins out of 11 in all competitions with 1 draw and 1 defeat. A point per game record of 2.55.

Ospina, Di Lorenzo, Koulibaly, Rrahmani, Mario Rui, Anguissa, Fabian Ruiz, Zielinski, Politano, Insigne, Osimhen.

This is a massive game for Roma, a reaction performance is needed or some fans already will be calling for Jose Mourinho sacking as silly as it sounds. I have seen people already calling for him to go. This will be a tough game, Napoli won both games convincingly last season. They are in fantastic form under a coach who I admire a lot and done wonderfully in two spells at AS Roma.
