AS Roma return to league action in Serie A on Sunday evening looking to bounce back after last weekend Derby Della Capitale’s defeat to fierce rivals Lazio.
Roma got back to winning ways in Europe on Thursday evening with a not so thrilling 3-0 away win in Ukraine against a spirited Zorya Luhansk side.
At times Roma struggled for consistency in the game and it took two substitutions in the second half to change the fortunes for the away side. Tammy Abraham and Nicolo Zaniolo were introduced as second-half substitutes with the game still at 1-0 on the 62nd minute. Fast forward 6 minutes later and the game was over as a contest, both substitutes played a part in Roma 2 goals in that time. Zaniolo assisted Tammy Abraham for Roma third of the game after Chris Smalling headed home from close range just two minutes earlier.
It was a good reaction win for AS Roma after the Derby Della Capitale defeat on Sunday, it was good to see Jose Mourinho rest some players ahead of the Empoli game at the weekend.
PREDICTED XI | ROMA (4-2-3-1)
Rui Patricio, Karsdorp, Mancini, Ibanez, Vina, Darboe, Veretout, Zaniolo, Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan, Abraham.
Empoli are the visitors to the Italian capital on Sunday evening. They have started life back at the top table of Italian football brilliantly. After 6 rounds of action Empoli find themselves in 9th place with 9 points. Just two points behind the trio of Juventus, Atalanta, and Lazio.
Empoli have started the season with 3 wins and 3 defeats, very consistent to start the 2021/22 Serie A Season. The three wins have been very impressive and that includes a shock 1-0 away in Turin against Juventus on matchday 2. The last game for Empoli was a fantastic 4-2 home win over Bologna. This was the second win on the spin as in matchday 5 in Serie A, Empoli travelled to Sardinia and picked up a 2-0 away win against Cagliari.
Aurelio Andreazzoli is the Empoli coach, a name that Roma know after his stint in the hot seat at Roma at the latter end of the 2012/13 season after Zdenek Zeman sacking midway through the season. Then moved to the role of technical coach when Rudi Garcia and Luciano Spalletti took over in 2013 and 2016. At Empoli, it is in the DNA to play 4-3-1-2 with a trequartista to dictate and control the game. This is his third spell in charge of Empoli after leaving AS Roma in 2017, he did have a spell at Genoa in 2019/20, only 9 games, and was sacked by charismatic Enrico Preziosi.
PREDICTED XI | EMPOLI (4-3-1-2)
Vicario, Stonjanovic, Romagnoli, Viti, Marchizza, Haas, Ricci, Bandinelli, Bajrami, Di Francesco, Pinamonti.
