The General Manager of the Giallorossi spoke about the transfer window and the possibility for Roma to qualify for the next Champions League.
Tiago Pinto knows that Rome can be difficult at times. But the passion for this team, breathable in the Eternal City, can be an added value to push Roma beyond their limits.
In today’s press conference, Pinto clearly stated, “my target is not the Scudetto but to work daily to get closer to success. Time is not an excuse, clearly, we want to win. Our team is stronger than last season.”
The General Manager believes Mourinho is the best coach in the world and that he will make the difference, “He has a stratospheric dimension. I’m a professional and we can also disagree on something at times, but I learn every they from him…I’m proud, happy, and motivated to be working with Mourinho.”
Roma have very good players on the roster and although the General Manager admitted that Xhaka was a target for the club, he also mentioned that some of the midfielders currently available are top class while others may have a great future ahead of them.
He also praised the owners of the club. The Friedkins invested a lot to strengthen the roster and together with Pinto, they implemented their strategies to do it in a sustainable way. The club must take into consideration the financial aspects. Pinto and his collaborators had to manage many negotiations this summer.
“At the beginning of the season, we had more than 60 players under contract and that is not an easy task to manage…I think that we did a good job finding a solution for more than 30 players even if we haven’t sold them,” Pinto said to the press.
It wasn’t easy to reshape a roster that clearly disappointed their fans last season. As the General Manager confirmed, “this has been the most difficult transfer market of recent football history.” But Pinto did well and the Friedkins have shown their desire to build a winning team.
