Although the Giallorossi had total possession throughout the 90 minutes, Fonseca’s men didn’t show the usual form and tactical ability to overcome the double defensive wall built by Inzaghi.

When the referee sent off Kamil Glik in the 57th minute (two yellow cards), the Lupi should have done much more to collect the three points. Paulo Fonseca reshaped the team in the second 45 minutes playing Dzeko, Pedro and, El Shaarawy to give more consistency to the offensive phase but his side repeatedly hit Inzaghi‘s wall.
Sometimes possession is not enough though. Although Roma completed 593 passes with 85% of accuracy (250 passes for Benevento), the rhythm of the team of the Italian capital was too slow to put the talented Italian keeper Montipò in danger.
