3 takeaways from Florenzi’s performance against Wolfsberger

The captain of the Giallorossi is passing through a tough moment at Roma. Florenzi’s performance against Wolfsberger was poor.

Some believe he should leave his beloved team next January. Others consider him an added value, a player extremely useful on a roster. Alessandro Florenzi is passing through a tough moment at Roma.

The captain of the Giallorossi is clearly Fonseca’s third choice as a right-back as well as on the offensive right flank. The Portuguese coach prefers Santon and Spinazzola in the backline. Zaniolo and Under are the best options to develop the offensive strategies on that wing.

What should Florenzi do in January? 3 takeaways from Florenzi’s performance against Wolfsberger.

  • The player has been clearly playing under pressure. Although he wants to show his quality, his defensive phase seems to be weak. His own goal against Wolfsberger certainly didn’t help him. With Kolarov playing on the opposite side and Santon injured, Fonseca will likely prefer Spinazzola as a right-back against Spal;
  • Too many possessions lost in the Europa League clash against Wolfsberger. His 80 touches are a good amount but only 33 of them were accurate (67.3%). If he wants to impress Paulo Fonseca and regain a pivotal role at Roma, Florenzi must do much more from now on;
  • He is an important player in Roma’s locker room. His impeccable behavior at this difficult time is a note of merit. Fonseca knows about his deep love for Roma. But every coach makes his choices for the good of his team.

Alessandro Florenzi should stay at Roma although he is currently a second/third choice for the coach. He can be an important player during this campaign as well.

With Santon often picking up injuries and Spinazzola ready to replace Kolarov on the left-wing when needed, the captain of the Lupi will have many chances to play this season. Juan Jesus may be leaving in January and Cengiz Under has been struggling since his return after a long injury. The Italian player could be Fonseca’s best choice on the defensive and offensive right flank soon.
