The Giallorossi had a positive meeting in Madrid with the agents of the Portuguese coach. Paulo Fonseca could be on the verge of joining Roma if Shakhtar agrees.
The saga of the new Roma coach goes on and on. Strategic changes, rumors, and various unexpected events have dragged this story ahead for weeks. But it seems that a glimmer of light is seen at the end of the tunnel.
According to the Italian transfer market pundit, Gianluca Di Marzio, Paulo Fonseca is closer to Roma after today’s meeting in Madrid.

Although the Portuguese man seems to be on the verge of joining Roma, now the Giallorossi have to find an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk. Reportedly, there’s a €5 million release clause in Fonseca’s contract and, in the next few days, the agent of the coach will work hard to reduce or remove it by talking with the executives of the Ukrainian powerhouse.
Reportedly, Paulo Fonseca would have accepted a three-year contract worth €2.5 million plus bonuses. Nicolò Schira, a journalist of the Italian La Gazzetta dello Sport, has confirmed these rumors adding that Roma expects Fonseca’s agents to waive his release clause.
Tutto confermato: intesa triennale (2,5 milioni netti a stagione) per Paulo #Fonseca con la #Roma, che adesso aspetta che gli agenti del portoghese lo liberino gratis dallo #Shakthar (clausola da 5 milioni). #calciomercato https://t.co/FdH0KtJosr

Will Shakhtar Donetsk let Paulo Fonseca join Roma?
A question that should have a certain answer but that after all that has happened with Gasperini leaves Roma fans breathless. Fonseca would seem to be the man chosen to arrive in the Italian capital. But if anything goes wrong, Rome could change target again maybe opting for an Italian option.
Meanwhile, Roma CEO Fienga and the future sporting director of the Lupi Gianluca Petrachi returned to the Italian capital. The negotiation has not been finalized but, as the journalist of the Italian Il Tempo Filippo Biafora confirmed, in the coming days there will be a meeting with the Ukrainian club to reach a deal.
Aggiornamento della buonanotte: Petrachi e Fienga sono appena tornati da Madrid dopo l’incontro con gli agenti di #Fonseca: il port. è nettamente favorito, ma bisognerà liberarlo dallo Shakhtar.
