Roma Waste an Invaluable Treasure, 3-3 Against Atalanta (Stats)

Eusebio Di Francesco - AS Roma

The giallorossi play a great first-half scoring three goals finalizing perfect counterattacks. Atalanta recover the gap in the second 45 minutes with an ecstatic performance.

We once again experienced the crazy attitude of a team able to reviving their opponents. Roma wasted a three goals advantage against a simply extraordinary team. Gasperini‘s men pushed hard during the second half to recover the gap and deservedly collected one point in front of their fans.

Although Dzeko‘s brace and El Shaarawy had inflicted a severe punishment to the bergamaschi, Castagne‘s goal right at the end of the first 45’ minutes had given the feeling that something could have changed. Atalanta‘s total hegemony in the second half highlighted Roma’s unrealistic defensive deficiencies.

Papu Gomez & Co. have simply devastated Di Francesco‘s men. If Ilicic had been more careful in his offensive choices, the final outcome of this match could have been even more depressing for the giallorossi. A team that always adds pearls of sadness in its performance. The Lupi had the ability to let Duvan Zapata‘s goal just one minute after he had missed a penalty.

Roma collected a point at the Atleti Azzurri d’Italia after having played a shocking match. The race towards the Champions League is still very long and tortuous.
