The German defender Antonio Ruediger released a long interview to the German portal 11teamsports.de. The interview took place at Trigoria and Ruediger revealed the reason why he joined Roma 2 years ago.

“It wasn’t easy to move to Italy after having lived in Germany for a long time. The Italian Serie A is very different from the Bundesliga. In Germany, games are faster and there is the possibility to score more goals for the benefit of the show. In Italy, there is much more focus on tactical instructions.

On May 13th, 2014 I played my first match with the national team. It was an incredible feeling even if that was a friendly match. That was one of the best moments of my career.

I am going to show you what I do after the training (Ruediger accompanied the interviewer to the bar at Trigoria and he offered him a coffee). This is the place where we spend a lot of time, before and after the training. We talk about everything, not only about soccer.

Lewandowski is the best striker I faced. He is the most complete striker in the world, physically and technically strong, and able to score goals.

Mesut Oezil is another great player with an incredible ball touch. He has a technique and an inner calm in doing amazing things. A very strong player.

Jerome Boateng is my model. A great defender.”

The journalist asked Ruediger to choose his top 11 players.

“Center back Jerome Boateng and Nesta. Roberto Carlos on the left while Cafu on the right. Playmaker Toni Kroos. N’Golo Kanté is the other defensive midfielder. Alexis Sanchez on the left offensive flank. Leroy Sané on the right. Lewandowski and “Grandpa” Totti are the strikers.

Totti is one of the reasons why I moved to Rome. When you think about this club you don’t picture Champions League’s trophies or something similar. You think about Totti. I absolutely wanted to play with him and that is what I did.

I don’t see him off the pitch. I am 24 years old and he is 40. There are differences between us. The truth is that he is a very fun boy, he has a great sense of humor.”
