CIES: AS Roma in fifth place for money spent and performance

CIES reported a statistic on the big-5 league teams according to the transfer expenditure to sign players fielded over the 2016/17 season. This statistic confirms the strong link between money and success due to the positive and significant correlation between fees paid and points per match.

In the hypothetical ranking based on the money/performance ratio focused on the Italian Serie A, AS Roma would be sitting in the fifth position together with Lazio, Crotone, and Empoli.

It is interesting to know that Atalanta is at the Top of this special ranking while Palermo is in the last position. Inter’s second-to-last position is shocking.
