After Juventus and Real Madrid’s recent access to the Champions League final match, the result of the historic battle between Adidas and Nike seems to be clear.
The German company gains the lead in football defeating the super cool yankee’s brand.
This season, Adidas reached two remarkable goals. It is the sponsor of the two teams that got to the UEFA Champions League final match in Cardiff but also made the kits for all Europa League semi-finalists. With Ajax and Manchester United that will face each other in the Europa League final match, Adidas completed its stunning year.
Adidas defeated Nike not only in the European competitions for clubs but also in the local leagues. The German company already won the Bundesliga and the Premier League sponsoring Bayern Munich and Chelsea. Also the Italian Serie A’s final outcome is practically decided. Juventus, another team branded Adidas, will conquer its sixth title in a row soon. The situation is a bit more complicated in Spain due to the point-to-point rivalry between Real Madrid (Adidas) and Barcelona (Nike) but the Merengues are probably going to win.
Adidas’ great performances are not surprising at all. According to Bloomberg, the Three Stripes invested around $2.7 billion on marketing last year. If it’s range of revenue will still be around 12 / 13 percent over the years, Adidas could add around $1 billion to its marketing by 2020.
