Lazio took the spoils in the final Derby Della Capitale of the season 3-1 in the lunch time kick-off on Sunday afternoon.
Lazio thoroughly deserved the three points as coach Simone Inzaghi got his tactics spot on. Keita Balde opened the scoring, Daniele De Rossi equalized through a very very dubious penalty. Dusan Basta added a second through a deflected effort and Keita Balde added a second. Antonio Rudiger was sent off in added time for a rash challenge.
Edin Dzeko had an early opportunity which was parried over the crossbar after a floated ball by Kevin Strootman. Strakosha done well and stood tall and parried Dzeko close range over the crossbar. Mohamed Salah with a brilliant direct run, ghosted past Bastos and Lukaku and had a low curled effort tipped away brilliant by Strakosha.
Lucas Biglia had Lazio first sight of goal after ten minutes, Senad Lulic done well done Lazio left hand side, cross was cleared by Emerson. It fell to Biglia who fired wide from outside of the area. Lazio took the lead just a minute later, Keita Balde who is starting up front on his own took his opportunity. He glided past Fazio and struck a low effort in between the legs of Emerson and past the outstretched Szczesny.
Lazio tactics of sitting deep and hitting Roma on the counter attack is working, Marco Parolo broke from deep and had a low snap shot from the edge of the area which Szczensy had to do well to parry around for a corner. Lazio came close to adding a second and it would be thoroughly deserved, through ball to Keita balde who slipped at the wrong time, Roma defence fell asleep and fail to clear their lines. Ball fell to Marco Parolo with another low shot which was brilliantly tipped away by Szczesny.
Roma were awarded a very very dubious penalty right on half time, Kevin Strootman won a penalty after a challenge with Wallace. On replays it was never a penalty, a horrible dive from the Dutch International. Daniele De Rossi took the responsibility and rolled the penalty into the bottom corner. That was a get out of jail card from Roma.
Change of tactics from Roma in the second half, Bruno Peres brought on for the non-existent Stephan El Shaarawy. Dzeko was brilliantly denied by Strakosha from inside of the six yard box, excellent work down the right from Salah to find Dzeko was brilliantly denied.
Lazio took the lead after 50 minutes, a cross in from the left hand side was poorly cleared by De Rossi, it fell to Dusan Basta who took aim from the edge of the area and it took a deflection of Fazio into the bottom corner past the outstretched Szczesny.
Lazio came close twice to adding a third goal as they sat deep and hit Roma on the counter attack. Keita Balde whi has been a constant threat all game fired over the bar from close range. Felipe Anderson danced through a static Roma defence and was denied at the near post by Szczesny foot.
Roma were chasing for an equaliser and were hit on the counter attack, Lucas Biglia was brilliant winning the ball back and feeding into Felipe Anderson path. Felipe Anderson was denied by the on rushing Szczesny who done well so spread himself and deny the Brazilian attacker.
Lazio added a third with 5 minutes remaining and deserved it thoroughly. Roma pushed forward looking to added a second. Lulic broke deep from the left hand side leaving Roma defence all over the place, fed in Keita Balde who made no mistake from just outside of the six yard box to celebrate under the Curva Nord. Things got worse for Roma in stoppage time as Antonio Rudiger was sent off for an over the top challenge.
No fairytale ending for Francesco Totti in his final Derby Della Capitale. Such a horrible performance from Roma this afternoon, so disjointed and once again Simone Inzaghi has done a job on Luciano Spalletti in tactically outclassing him again. Inzaghi got his tactics spot on in a 3-5-1-1 and they didn’t miss Ciro Immobile who picked up an injury/illness in the warm up. Keita Balde gave Roma defence the run around. Juventus dropped points on Friday night and once again Roma couldn’t capitalise on the situation and will be looking over their shoulder for Napoli who take on Inter tonight at the San Siro.
