The new Roma sporting director Monchi released his first official interview as a manager of the Giallorossi.

The Spaniard hopes to help the Giallorossi to compete for Europe’s top table and consolidate their position in the Italian Serie A.

“About this new challenge? I want to repay the warm welcome I’ve received from the president, club, and management. I’ll start as soon as possible putting together the best possible Roma side.”

Why did you choose Roma? They were very determined in offering me this chance. They showed off their deep desire to bring me here. I believe this club perfectly fits with my way of working. It’s an ambitious club that wants to grow and compete for major objectives. Also, this is a wonderful city and the club has a huge fan base. I believe we can do a good job here.

Is Roma appreciated around the world? This is a big club and everyone talks in a positive way about Roma. There’s a very positive view of Roma. It represents one of the greatest cities on earth. It has a great history and great potential for the future.

Is planning very important nowadays? Planning is key to reach results. At Sevilla, we all contributed to building a model which grew over time. Roma is already on the right path. I believe that with good planning, the right staff, and appropriate infrastructure we can achieve great things.

About Jim Pallotta? He conveyed his enthusiasm, ambition, desire to achieve great results. Even if we had the barrier of language, we’ve always spoken the same language when it comes to working.

What are your short- and long-term targets? The short-term goal is to understand more about Roma. I want to know everything about the club’s identity and philosophy. Together with Ricky Massara we will create the most professional football staff possible. I firmly believe that this is one of the secrets to future success. In the long-term, our aim is to consolidate Roma in Italy and boost it in Europe’s top table.

Did you receive a warm welcome from the fans? Absolutely. The fans warmly welcomed me yesterday in Pescara and on social media. I want to repay their faith demonstrating to them my enthusiasm, work ethic, and the hope that one day they can be pleased with the job I do.”
