Pallotta’s interview at SiriusXM FC: “We ran out of gas. Against Napoli we outsmarted ourselves”

The AS Roma president James Pallotta interview at SiriusXM FC highlights his disappointment for the recent results obtained by his team.

“The frustrating thing is that we were playing really well, we had a lot of chances but I just think that we ran out of gas. We got a number of players that are playing a lot of time because of injuries and also because last summer we didn’t make right choices on who to keep and who not to keep. I tend to like our young players and we are going to change that policy. We had a lot of talented players but other teams are enjoying their benefits and that could break some of the players.

We can see that just with five minutes left they came down (Lyon) with Strootman and a couple of other players just walking back. That’s not their attitude, Strootman is a warrior but I was yelling at the screen, and then Dzeko, but they scored the fourth goal. One and a half minutes later happened the same thing.

These guys are playing a lot of time, let’s take Fazio who is playing great but in the last three matches had a tougher time. In the last two years he didn’t get much playing time because of injuries and not playing much, he is a little tired and there’s tiredness in some of them.

In Napoli’s case, we might have outsmarted ourselves. I said to Franco (Baldini), I don’t feel good about this. Seeing the way the lineup was, bringing Salah in with 35 minutes left we had about 8 chances, we hit the post a few times, he opened the game a lot and maybe we should have had that earlier. It’s tough to say. I’m second guessing right here but even Luciano (Spalletti) would admit that, and he did admit that after the game. In Napoli’s case, we should have had a tie or better and yesterday we looked like we ran out of gas.”
