Pallotta fires Colette. Roma is hunting for a new marketing director

The AS Roma president James Pallotta fires Laurent Colette after the former Barcelona marketing director didn’t find a new sponsor for the giallorossi.

This is one of the rules of the American way to do business. There is no mercy for those that are not performing well in their jobs. In the eyes of the Italians, this seems to be a fierce behavior but the reality is that everyone is paid for providing an impeccable and efficient benefit to the employer and the story between Laurent Colette and AS Roma wasn’t successful.

On October 2015, Colette the former Barcelona Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer left the blaugrana to join the giallorossi. James Pallotta had entrusted him with the search for the main sponsor able to pay between €15-18 million to AS Roma. This seemed to be an impossible mission for the talented marketing professional even because the Italian market is not as appealing as the Premier League, Bundesliga, and La Liga but, moreover, because even the best and well-known Italian teams such as AC Milan, Juventus, and Inter are struggling to get that amount of revenue from their main sponsors.

Pallotta fires Colette – The main reason why he did it!

No doubt that Laurent Colette is considered one of the top Marketing Directors in the world panorama but James Pallotta, very disappointed with Colette’s operate, decided to fire him.

Although Laurent Colette was not able to seal a sponsorship deal for AS Roma he successfully closed two minor deals such as those with Linkem and Nissan. Colette also renegotiated, providing a benefit for AS Roma, the contracts with Trenitalia, Gatorade and, Philipp Plein.

Pallotta fires Colette – He wants a global sponsor for the Stadio della Roma! 

James Pallotta is looking for a main sponsor that would be willing to commit to a global deal in which the naming rights of the stadium would be included. This is not going to be an easy task for the next marketing director but the recent agreement that AS Roma struck with the Municipality of Rome about the construction of Stadio della Roma could be helpful.
