In the United Kingdom the FIFA Majors’ TV rights have been purchased by BT Sport highlighting a reality in steady growth.
According to the Italian website RivistaUndici, in the last few years, the eSports phenomenon is in steady growth. Data highlight that in 2017 this sector will reach $696 million with an audience of 385 mln people. Professional clubs understood the value of this business and recently incremented their investments in this sector.
To make the explosion of the eSports happen there was the need of an adequate television coverage. BT Sport decided to enter the game announcing that this year the media company will broadcast the FIFA Majors. They are not the first company who decided to get involved in this world.
Simon Green of BT Sport believes that this is “another example of innovation that BT Sport is putting in place. The eSports football is experiencing steady growth and we are happy to be the first to broadcast it in the United Kingdom.”
Todd Sitrin, the general manager of the EA Competitive Gaming Division also stated:
“This is a great opportunity to let this reality be mainstream. We believe that accessibility is the key to success. Moreover, we are enthusiastic about this partnership with BT Sport.”
According to RivistaUndici, BT Sport will broadcast four main events:
- The North-America finals (Vancouver, April 8th, 2017);
- The contest in Singapore (April 22nd, 2017);
