As we predicted and reported Urby Emanuelson is a new Roma player. (Official statement). However, something was not correctly predicted, the term of his contract. All the newspapers had reported the terms of a contract that would have been of two years with an option to extend for a third year. Instead, Sabatini surprised us.
Emanuelson signed a contract for just one year and Roma have the right to extend it for another two years. This is a very important difference concerning the terms of the contract because it seems like that Roma do not trust Emanuelson.
Obviously I‘m exaggerating. Sabatini firmly believes that Emanuelson can be a high level player also if his recent performances with Milan were very disappointing.
I consider this move as another Sabatini’s masterpiece. In this way at the end of the next season Roma can decide their future. Based on their budget they could let Emanuelson leave and buy a stronger player. Otherwise, if the Dutch fullback amazed the crowd he will be confirmed and his contract extended.
Roma are on the right track, however, now top class players are required.
