Cole-Eto’o: are they the right names?

Data by Transfermarkt

Ceaselessly the swirl of players associated with Roma continue . Rumors coming from everywhere are flooding the Roman football scene. Samuel Eto’o and Ashley Cole are the names on everyone’s lips. However, due to their age the question seems mandatory…Are they the right names?

Ashley Cole is leaving Chelsea because Mourinho decided to not renew his contract. Undoubtedly, this fact represents an alarm bell. We recently saw Michael Essien’s terrible performances when he was discarded by Chelsea and joined Milan. Mourinho seems to be very good in understanding if a player is at the end of his good performance cycle or not. Cole is definitely a big name, a player that collected 557 appearances in the Premier League and 106 in the UEFA Champions League with Arsenal and Chelsea. However, Cole is 33 years old and this could represent a problem.

Samuel Eto’o is 33 years old too. He is a well know great star but the main problem that has been highlighted in the recent World Cup is that he seems to be less powerful than a few years ago. Although his last season with Chelsea was not bad at all he seems to be less agile and resistant. With Chelsea he collected 35 appearances and scored 12 goals. During last season he also played 9 matches in the Champions League and scored 3 goals. His historical performances are difficult to beat. In his career he played 519 matches in various leagues around the world and he  scored 269 goals. He has a great European experience as well. His historical performances in the Champions League is great…78 appearances, 30 goals and 19 assist.

Samuel Eto’o and Ashley Cole would bring a lot of experience in Rudi Garcia’s team but their ages leaves big questions about their future performance. Sabatini could bet on these players in order to create an instant team ready to win at least the next Serie A but there are big risks of failure as well. Maicon’s bet was won but in the future there’s no certainty

What do you guys think about them?
