The World Cup corner: Italy, defeat deserved

A really bad Italy against a reactive Costa Rica that deserved the success and got the qualification to the next stage. Undoubtedly the heat and humidity have partially favored Costa Rica that is more used to those temperatures. However, Costa Rica seemed better organized on the pitch and certainly more responsive than Italy.

After two great chances created by Pirlo and not finalized by the evanescent Balotelli Italy completely disappeared from the pitch. Costa Rica trapped the Italian players with a dense network of passages that disunited Prandelli’s guys.

Also Prandelli’s choices did not convince much. Candreva seemed to be tired from the first match against England as well as many other players. Chiellini finished the match with no gas in the tank and also new entrants did not impressed.

Now Italy’s situation in the group is intricate. Prandelli’s guys cannot lose against Uruguay. Although Italy can pass the group with two results out of three it is always difficult to manage a match by thinking in this way.

Costa Rica deserved to win and, at this stage, Italy vs Uruguay will be a true battle.
