De Rossi is out of the World Cup

We all know about De Rossi’s injury against Costa Rica and yesterday, through the media, we saw him going to the hospital for a medical control for his calf. The bad news came…De Rossi cannot play against Uruguay.

However, the situation is more complex that what it seems to be. In fact, when a player suffers of a problem to the calf it is very probable that his recovery time will be very long. By its nature, the World Cup is not a long competition and because math is not an opinion it is very unlikely that De Rossi can play again in this competition.

Italy’s medical chief Enrico Castellacci revealed:

“It is very likely De Rossi won’t be able to play against Uruguay…There are no lesions to the soleus muscle. It simply is an injury that requires a few days to recover from.”

The Italian national team doctor’s diagnosis seems to leave some possibilities for the player, however, De Rossi suffers from a very annoying problem that, if it is not well cured, it could  cause very dangerous muscle relapse.

De Rossi is out of the World Cup but hopefully Italy can survive the match of life or death against Uruguay.
