A packed Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Thursday evening will see AS Roma take on Leicester City in the second leg of the Semifinal of the Europa Conference League. The tie is nicely poised after a draw for Roma 1-1 at the King Power stadium.

AS Roma returned to Serie A action with this game in mind just four days later and drew 0-0 at home on Sunday night against a rejuvenated Bologna side. It was a gamble by Jose Mourinho to rotate with the game on Thursday in mind and it nearly worked. Roma played well but did not take their chances. Bologna defended heroically and had their Polish ex-Roma goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski to thank. The ex-Roma goalkeeper was the hero for Bologna with crucial saves to deny the Roma attack.

Bologna did cause problems for Roma in the attack and on one or more occasions breached the back three and had chances to win the game late on. Musa Barrow and Marko Arnautovic had chances late in the second half to take the points back home. Bologna have ruffled the feathers of the top seven in the last two months. They have taken away points from AC Milan, Juventus, and now Roma. It’s nothing to be scoffed at.

Leicester City returned to the bread and butter of the Premier League on Sunday afternoon after the exploits of the first leg at home last Thursday. Brendan Rodgers heavily rotated his Leicester City side with the Thursday game in Rome in mind. Only three players from the first leg started the game on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur, Kasper Schmeichel, Timothy Castagne, and Marc Albrighton.

The game ended 3-1 for the home side Tottenham Hotspur, Harry Kane opened the scoring before a double from his strike partner Heung-min Son. That win took Tottenham into the top four for a moment before Arsenal won away at West Ham United. Leicester City remain in eleventh in the Premier League standings but do have two games in hand on Newcastle United who are two points and one place above them in tenth.
