Although many think Roma should have purchased another midfielder, Fonseca has plenty of options. Mancini, Diawara, and Pellegrini can provide consistency in front of the backline.

The transfer window is now over and we can say the Lupi have a competitive group for the current campaign. Fonseca’s roster has been shrunk to reduce operative costs but the quality of the players who joined the team is very good.

Although many think Roma should have purchased a new midfielder as well, by taking into consideration the skills of a few players in the roster, we can definitely say the Giallorossi have many different options in midfield.

Jordan Veretout is the undisputed leader there in the center of the action but Paulo Fonseca has Lorenzo Pellegrini and Amadou Diawara ready to support the Frenchman.

Pellegrini has a good touch and offensive quality while Diawara is a very dynamic player capable of moving the ball fast to restart the action, a pure playmaker with vision and rhythm.

But the Italian defender Gianluca Mancini may be the best option for the Portuguese coach. Fonseca played him in that role last season and he may decide to do so again very soon. Mancini is a remarkable shield for the backline, a player that could do great things with Veretout providing necessary support to Smalling, Kumbulla, and Ibanez in the defensive phase as well.

To these three good choices, we should also add Cristante. Fonseca has a surprising abundance in midfield!
