Comparing Diawara to Torreira. What could Roma do? (Stats)

Rumors are reporting on Arsenal’s possible interest in Roma’s defensive midfielder. The Giallorossi may be targeting Torreira if Diawara moves to London.

Transfer market negotiations may be surprising at times. There’s a possible interest in Amadou Diawara by Arsenal. The Guinean midfielder played a good season with the Giallorossi but in January 2020, he suffered a knee injury that kept him out of the pitch for a long time.

Paulo Fonseca played him as a defensive midfielder, a playmaker in charge of setting the pace of the game. After a natural period of adaptation, the Guinea international showed his quality in the center of the action.

But things can rapidly change when the transfer window is almost open. Reportedly, the Gunners are chasing Diawara and the Giallorossi may be targeting Torreira to strengthen their midfield.

Both players passed through a troubled season and their performance seems to be very similar. The Uruguayan had almost the same impact on the British side (39 appearances; 2 goals; 1 assist; 7 yellow cards; total minutes played 2,041).

What Could Roma do in this transfer window?

Several clubs are interested in Lucas Torreira with Fiorentina reportedly leading the race. But Roma can make the Uruguayan feel important and at the center of the new project of coach Fonseca.

If Arsenal would move forward for Diawara, the Giallorossi could have great benefit in purchasing Torreira, a skilled playmaker who shined at Sampdoria back in 2018 and who perfectly knows the rhythms of Serie A.

Both clubs could make a profit due to the current reported value of those players. This could really be a win/win deal for the Gunners and the Giallorossi.
