Fonseca believes Roma can be one of the strongest Italian teams

Marco Canoniero /

Fonseca spoke about his period in the Italian capital and the tactical issues he experienced in the Serie A. He also predicts Roma will be great soon.

Many new players and executives joined the Giallorossi last summer and this may be the reason why Roma struggled to find the right balance on the pitch this season. Even the Portuguese coach has been a new addition to the roster. It’s never easy to adapt to a new reality. The Italian football style is quite different from that of the other European teams. The tactical aspects are extremely relevant as confirmed by Paulo Fonseca in a recent interview with ESPN.

“I had to find a balance between my principles and what is required to play in Serie A. You have to think about how your opponents play. Their coaching and tactics are very high and you cannot just focus on yourself.”

Every game is a real tactical challenge in the Bel Paese and Fonseca is now aware of that: “It’s difficult to know how they [the opponents] will play.”

He is still adapting to Italian football but he also firmly believes his team will be one of the best sides soon: “I think we can be one of the strongest teams in Serie A in a short time,” Paulo Fonseca confirmed to ESPN.
