After the disappointing defeat against Sassuolo at the Mapei stadium, we can definitely say that our expectations may hold us back. Roma need more quality.

The performance in the Derby della Capitale had made us hope for a new beginning of 2020. But an abrupt awakening saddens us and makes us think.

Are the expectations of the Roma fans not in line with the moment of their beloved team?

Quality and expectations make a difference in football. Many think this is only a problem that is affecting the Giallorossi at this time. But although the club is reportedly passing through an imminent change of ownership, these shocking performances also happened in past years.

Right at the end of Sassuolo-Roma, Edin Dzeko and Paulo Fonseca clearly spoke about a lack of quality. The Giallorossi are overall a good team with many talents that could blossom at any time. But the problem is that in evaluating our players we must always use verbs in the conditional form. “He could be the perfect player for Fonseca’s tactical system…He could blossom in the Italian capital…He could make a difference in tomorrow’s match…”

The Roma fans want to touch the stars. The club would like to reach their seasonal goals to make them happy. But when expectations are predominant, quality is necessary.

Top-level football is made of great players. When ambitions and hopes increase, only the mental and technical strength of experienced players can withstand the pressure. The passionate Roma fans support their idols traveling in Italy and around the world. Yesterday, they sang incessantly even when Sassuolo had scored the 3-0 in just 26 minutes.

Quality and expectations make a difference for Roma and in professional football. Although our idols sometimes betray us with disappointing performances, let’s support our beloved club, especially in difficult moments!
