Fonseca spoke to the press ahead of Roma-Lecce. He is focused on the next match and he wants to reach the qualification for Champions League.
Although his team has been struggling for more than a month, the coach of the Lupi really believes his players have the possibility to meet the club’s seasonal goal. The Champions League may be considered a dream being far behind Atalanta at this time, but many more matches must be played until the end of the season.
“I believe it is possible [the qualification for the Champions League]. I have to be the first to believe in it so that the players can believe in it as well,” Fonseca said to the press.
According to the Portuguese coach, it wouldn’t be a failure if Roma will not qualify for that prestigious European competition because “As everyone said at the beginning of the season, this is year zero. We have changed everything.”
To explain the importance of having a long term project, Fonseca also spoke about Klopp‘s performances in Liverpool: “I remember when Klopp got to Liverpool they came in eighth place in season one.”
Roma’s head coach wants to think positively about the rest of the season: “I am a positive person and I never thought of not reaching the fourth place.”
