Inter-Roma: Fonseca’s biggest doubt on the defensive right flank

The Portuguese coach has a triple-option as a right-back. Three players with different characteristics try to convince Fonseca.

Roma will face Inter on Friday and the coach of the Lupi has a big doubt in his mind. Santon, Spinazzola, and Florenzi are fit and ready to play on that side but they have different characteristics.

The former Inter man Santon has been doing well. Fonseca likes his way to interpret that role as he confirmed in today’s press conference ahead of Inter-Roma: “He did very well. He played two good matches and he can play three consecutive games. But we have Santon, Spinazzola, and Florenzi for that position.”

The captain of the Giallorossi has been relegated to the bench often this season. Conte should play Lazaro on that flank and Lautaro Martinez is currently making the difference starting wide and shifting towards the center. In light of that, a pure defender could be the right choice there and Santon may be Fonseca’s best option.

Inter-Roma can be decided on the wings. The challenge Candreva-Kolarov may be decisive as well. Under should sit on the bench with Zaniolo on the offensive right flank. “He is great when he attacks the goal,” former Inter and Roma midfielder Di Biagio had said yesterday. Fonseca hopes his young talent can make the difference against his former side at Stadio San Siro.
