With Smalling and Mancini out, Fonseca must reshape Roma’s backline. The Portuguese coach has a double choice against Spal, Cetin or Jesus.
Roma will face Spal tomorrow at the Stadio Olimpico. Although the Giallorossi got access to the Europa League knockout stage on Thursday, Fonseca clearly expressed his disappointment with the performance of his group.
“I didn’t like our attitude and I’ve spoken with the players about it,” said Paulo Fonseca in today’s press conference ahead of Roma-Spal.
The Portuguese coach wants a prompt reaction from his group. But Roma’s coach is also facing an important choice. Smalling and Mancini will be unavailable against Semplici‘s side and Fonseca could play Mert Cetin or Juan Jesus close to Fazio on Sunday.
“Jesus and Cetin are two solutions. One of them will certainly play tomorrow,” Fonseca said to the press today.
Although the Portuguese coach said that he is thinking about playing the Turk or the Brazilian close to Federico Fazio, he may surprise everyone playing Kolarov as a centre-back, Spinazzola on the left defensive side and Florenzi as a right-back.
