The Turkish star is back in the group after a long injury but Zaniolo’s peremptory growth may have changed Under’s future as well. Roma have a great duo on the right flank.

There are key moments in a player’s career. When you think you have achieved glory, you are forced to start a tortuous and very difficult path again.

September 4, 2019, was a pivotal moment in his career. Cengiz Under picked up a muscle injury and missed 10 matches. When he got back into the group, he noted something different, though. The rise of a talented young Italian player may affect his spell in the eternal city.

Nicolò Zaniolo is the player of the moment in Italian football. The 20-year-old has been doing great playing on the offensive right flank, the position where Under had built his football fortune.

Can Under still play an important role at Roma?

He may be but it’s going to be difficult at this time. Zaniolo is not only a great football player. He is rapidly becoming an icon of the Giallorossi. His efficiency on the pitch is indisputable but the Italian talent is also deeply loved by the fans of the prestigious club of the eternal city.

Since his return, Cengiz Under has not been making the difference anymore. In the last 8 Serie A matches, the Turk sat 3 times on the bench and had limited playing time in the other 5:

  • 9′ against Napoli;
  • 25′ vs Parma;
  • 18′ vs Brescia;
  • 67′ vs Hellas Verona;
  • 5′ vs Fiorentina.

Under is now Paulo Fonseca‘s second choice as a right-winger. Roma have a great duo on that offensive side but the Turkey international must give his best to play an important role at Roma again.
