The Giallorossi may try to trade off a few players in January to lower their salary expenses but it’s not going to be easy to strengthen the roster.
Petrachi may be facing a dilemma soon. Should Roma try to offload a few players in the next transfer window or should Fonseca keep his current group to reach a Champions League spot?
There are some players who seem to be second choices in the ambitious project of the Portuguese coach. Juan Jesus, Diego Perotti, and Alessandro Florenzi are not playing much and they could decide to move away from the Colosseum. But their eventual departure should be followed by important arrivals at Trigoria.
Perotti is one of the most talented players in Fonseca’s roster but his physical issues are slowing down his efficiency on the pitch. The Argentine winger may still be a top player for the Giallorossi albeit he made only 6 partial appearances since the beginning of the season for a total of 136 minutes. Diego Perotti played 98 minutes in 4 Serie A matches and 38 minutes in the Europa League.
Paulo Fonseca clearly believes in Perotti’s quality but the vortex of injuries has repeatedly hit him in recent years. The Portuguese coach played him on the left flank or behind the striker but with Pastore‘s professional rebirth and the arrival of the Armenian star Mkhitaryan, Perotti may often sit on the bench.
Florenzi was left out for the last 7 consecutive matches. Although Fonseca has the right to decide which players are most functional in his game system, we are talking about a player that is the current captain of the Giallorossi.
Rumors from Italy are reporting on Sampdoria‘s interest in Florenzi. The Italy international is playing for his beloved team and he may not be willing to leave the eternal city. But his professional future is more important especially thinking of the upcoming EURO 2020.
Alessandro Florenzi made only 9 appearances since the beginning of the 2019-20 campaign (579 minutes played).
Juan Jesus seems to be Fonseca’s last choice in the defensive sector even behind Martin Cetin, the talented Turk. Only 4 caps for the Brazilian player for a total of 194 minutes. The 28-year-old from Belo Horizonte could decide to try a new professional experience soon.
Roma could try to trade them off in January, the right moment to finalize a few operations before the important summer moves. Petrachi is currently screening the market also to bring home players capable of giving a consistent contribution to the group. It’s not going to be easy, though. The Giallorossi are very close to the Champions League spots but many other teams are ready to fight for a place in football elite.
