The gap between the Giallorossi and the top Italian sides is widening. Fonseca believes his team cannot improve rapidly due to the many injuries.
Roma’s fans are disappointed for the slow start of the season but the Lupi are affected by many injuries and this factor must be taken into consideration. When a new coach tries to implement a new football style, he needs to train the players consistently without interruptions.
But Paulo Fonseca doesn’t want to give up albeit he clearly stated that it is tough for his team to improve if many players are out at the same time and for a long period.
“In the last match, the team didn’t do well. It did not do everything necessary to win as it had been done against Cagliari. With all these injuries, it’s impossible to achieve the level I hoped for,” said Roma‘s coach in today’s press conference ahead of the Europa League match against the German side.
“It’s impossible to keep stability in the starting 11. All the important players such as Pellegrini, Mkhitaryan, Diawara, Cristante, and Dzeko have been unavailable. No team can reach the desired level of growth in this situation. I’m not looking for excuses but it is a reality easy to understand,” stated Paulo Fonseca.
