The Englishman debuted with the Giallorossi in today’s home defeat against Atlanta.
Chris Smalling has been waiting for this day for a long time but unfortunately his first official match with the Giallorossi has been a Serie A home defeat.
The defender knows Italian football is tactically very challenging but he wants to help his side to reach its goals this season.
“There are no easy matches in Italy. Each match is going to be a tough battle,” said the former Manchester United man. “I enjoyed playing at the Stadio Olimpico.”
Roma brought him to the eternal city to strengthen Fonseca‘s backline and albeit the tactical system of the Portuguese coach is very offensive, he hopes to show everyone his qualities.
“I just want to help the club achieve some big targets this season.”
The centre-back suffered from cramps towards the end of the match. Atalanta put the Giallorossi under pressure all over the pitch and it was not easy for Fonseca’s men to develop their strategies.
“This was my first competitive match of the season. I’ll be stronger the next match.“
