Roma Showed Its Ability to Press High

Roma defeats Sassuolo 4-2 at the Stadio Olimpico showing an exciting offensive football. Fonseca is pleased with the performance of his men.

Roma collects three points in front of its fans reaching 5 points in the Serie A standings. The Giallorossi demolished De Zerbi‘s team in the first half scoring four goals and creating many dangerous opportunities. The Neroverdi reduced the gap in the second 45 minutes but defensively the Lupi did quite well.

“Today we showed our ability to press high. I hope that this will be the first of many other wins,” said Fonseca right after today’s match. “We scored four goals but we could have scored many more, seven or eight.”

The group is definitely following the directives of the Portuguese coach. Cristante, Dzeko, Mkhitaryan, and Kluivert scored at the Stadio Olimpico today. But even Fazio and Mancini made a good performance against Sassuolo. Although the backline of the Lupi suffered two goals, the Argentine and the Italian defenders kept the line very high to support the pressing of the team.

“Defensively it was our best performance so far. If we press high we are not taking any risks in defense,” continued Paulo Fonseca. “The team needs to press high and we did it well today.”
