The Portuguese coach spoke to the press ahead of the next Serie A match Lecce-Roma. Fonseca’s side needs to find the right balance on the pitch.
This is the moment to move on and forget the burning defeat against Atalanta. Paulo Fonseca knows what to do to reshape his side and face Lecce properly. The next away match may be insidious. Liverani is a very good coach and he can strategically put the Lupi in danger again.
But Fonseca firmly believes his side is not experiencing physical issues. When asked why Roma lost many individual duels, the coach promptly replied: “I don’t think it has to do with the physical factor. That’s not the way we play. We have lost several duels, especially in the offensive phase. We had problems with Atalanta’s man-marking system.”
“Our team is physically strong but we simply do not interpret the game in a physical way. We suffered extreme aggression. When under pressure, the team must find solutions to trigger its offensive phase. We have lost many duels offensively, it’s a fact.”
A few players should be replaced on Sunday. The Portuguese coach wants a team ready for another battle.
