Fonseca: I do not Want a Passive Performance Like the one Against Lazio

The coach of the Giallorossi is unhappy with the performance of his men. Fonseca wants a courageous team able to impose his football credo.

Paulo Fonseca spoke to the press at Trigoria today. During his press conference, he also unveiled that Chris Smalling will be out of the match. Mkhitaryan, instead, is ready to play. The Portuguese coach wants much more from his group. He likes an offensive approach. His players must dominate possession against every opponent.

“I didn’t like the passive approach of my team against Lazio. I want a courageous attitude, especially when recovering the ball and pressing. I don’t want to see this kind of performance anymore,” said Fonseca today.

“The team is constantly improving in all aspects. I’m confident that tomorrow I can see another step forward, especially in terms of ideas and attitude. The team is improving.”

Paulo Fonseca also praised Sassuolo‘s coach De Zerbi for his courageous tactical approach, a football that the Portuguese coach really likes. “De Zerbi is an excellent and brave coach, who likes to keep possession of the ball. Stats show that. When a team proposes this type of football it deserves my attention and my compliments. We [Roma] are also working on that, although in Italy we focus more on vertical plays.”
