The Portuguese coach is testing his players’ ability to execute his football and believes Zaniolo can be the number 10 of his team.
There’s much more to understand about the potential of Roma this season but Paulo Fonseca, instead, knows what he wants.
Although his group is still a work in progress, the coach is slowly injecting his football credo in the mind of his players.
“I’m not completely satisfied. We are just at the beginning of a process,” said Fonseca in the post-Perugia-Roma press conference. “Something is going well albeit it needs to be improved. In the first half, the team worked on the pressing phase but we haven’t managed the ball properly.”
Nicolò Zaniolo can be an important player in his 4-2-3-1 but Fonseca sees him as a creative mind able to play in different zones of the pitch: “Zaniolo must improve in searching space. It’s positive that a player can play in different roles. I believe he is more a number 10 rather than a winger,” concluded Paulo Fonseca.
