The Giallorossi are chasing a great striker and the Argentine would make the Roma fans dream. Is Icardi a real possibility though?
An unprecedented domino effect could begin in Italy in the coming weeks. Four top Serie A sides are screening the market for a new striker but three of them, Juventus-Inter-Roma, could finalize important business between them.
The Giallorossi have been linked with Higuain for a long time but Mauro Icardi could be the best purchase for the club of the Italian capital.
Is Icardi a real possibility at this time?
In order to understand the feasibility of this deal, we have to focus on Icardi’s hypothetical financial impact on the Roma balance sheet.
If we assume that his market value is about €55 million (due to his natural depreciation being out of the current Inter project) and that Icardi could pen a 5-year contract with the Lupi for a salary of about €7m per year, his amortization would be €11m per year.
Having assumed that Icardi’s net salary would be €7m, Roma would pay €13m gross per year. In light of that, Mauro Icardi would weigh a lot on the Roma accounts, about €24m per year.
Although we are analyzing a hypothetical deal that could never come true, we should also think that the Argentine star could bring immediate and future benefits to the club of Trigoria.
The main goal of Fonseca is the qualification to the Champions League. Icardi could definitely give a boost to the ambitions of the Lupi on that front.
But if we have always said the Giallorossi want players that can appreciate in value, Icardi may be the best bet albeit a very expensive choice. In a couple of years, when the player will turn 28, his price-tag could be astronomical and Roma may benefit from it in financial terms.
Revenues from sponsors and from merchandising may be higher as well. The Argentine is a top-level player who attracts followers from all over the world.
There are no negotiations ongoing at this time but Mauro Icardi to Roma may just not be an impossible dream.
Several clubs are chasing him though. Juventus is thinking of him as well but recent rumors are linking the Bianconeri to Manchester United‘s Lukaku. Napoli, instead, is interested in the Argentine striker albeit the Partenopei are also working on Pepe‘s deal. Inter wants Lukaku and Dzeko, the Bosnia international could represent an important piece to exchange to bring Icardi close to the Colosseum.
Anything can happen in a transfer market window and Roma is currently not in the race for Icardi’s acquisition. But if Higuain will not be willing to move to the eternal city, Petrachi could also think about signing the Argentine superstar.
