Spinazzola-Pellegrini: Juventus and Roma Find a Win/Win Solution

Juventus and Roma have agreed to exchange Spinazzola for Pellegrini this summer. A permanent deal that could be seen as a financial and technical way to please both clubs.

In order to understand the deal between Juventus and Roma, we should dwell once again on the financial aspects of football. Most of the fans of these two clubs are questioning themselves if this agreement is purely made for financial reasons or, instead, for real technical choices.

Although Luca Pellegrini is definitely younger than Leonardo Spinazzola, there’s something in common between them lately. Both players have experienced serious injuries and now they are ready to restart having a great future ahead of them. Spinazzola is six years older than Pellegrini (20) and albeit he didn’t play much last campaign, he trained with top players at Juventus reaching the Serie A title.

Luca Pellegrini‘s path in Rome has been slightly more complicated. The Italy U20 moved to Cagliari in January to play and gain experience. He could have not played much at Roma with Kolarov ahead of him and the Lupi decided to loan him to the club of the beautiful Italian island.

Leonardo Spinazzola underwent a cruciate ligament surgery in August 2018. He returned on the pitch only at the beginning of January 2019. Allegri decided to give him a little more playing time only in March when he made a sensational Champions League performance against Atletico Madrid.

The 26-year-old from Foligno can cover all positions on the left flank, a very important role, especially for Fonseca‘s tactical approach. Since March 28, 2017, Spinazzola is also a player of the Italian national team with which he made 7 appearances.

But most of the fans and football pundits are asking themselves if this deal between Roma and Juventus is based on technical or financial factors. June 30th is a pivotal moment for financial reasons. All clubs must carefully cope with the financial fair play rules enforced by UEFA. Milan knows what we are talking about.

The Giallorossi are trading out one of their top youngsters. But Spinazzola brings experience and physicality to the club of the eternal city. This is a win/win deal for both clubs. Roma needs certainties rather than playing with many good prospects. Serie A can be a fierce league. Too many youngsters could be seriously in trouble against the expert players of the Bel Paese.

Although Spinazzola’s price-tag seems to be very high (reportedly €29 million) even Juventus will pay the young Luca Pellegrini reportedly about €22m. Sensational evaluations for two defenders with a bright present and future. Roma and Juventus should make this deal official in the next few hours.
