The Giallorossi have been really interested in the Italian defender but the unexpected qualification of the Nerazzurri to the Champions League could compromise a possible deal. Will Roma finalize Mancini’s acquisition in July?
Let’s go back to January to understand something more about Gianluca Mancini‘s future. Although Atalanta was already amazing the crowds winning matches and challenging the top teams of the Bel Paese, the Italian defender was insistently linked to Roma.
The Giallorossi had decided to go all-in on Mancini even predicting the possible departure of Kostas Manolas. The summer period has arrived and the Greek defender seems to be very close to Napoli. But the future of Gianluca Mancini is still uncertain.
Last January, his agent Stefano Castelnovo had spoken to the Italian radio station Teleradiostereo about the future of his client. According to him, the player was not ready to move during the January transfer window but the Giallorossi were really interested in signing him. “He is not going to move in January. It doesn’t make any sense to leave Atalanta in the middle of the season. Gianluca will remain in Bergamo right now,” had said Castelnovo. “We won’t leave right now. Contacts with the Giallorossi have been going on for a while. But we will see the overall situation in June.”
Words that leave no doubt even if the situation has changed slightly. June has arrived, the transfer window is open but Atalanta’s qualification for the Champions League could have compromised a possible deal. The questions are the following…
Is Mancini still willing to join Roma even if the Lupi failed to qualify for the Champions League? Is Roma still interested in the acquisition of the Italian international?
There seems to be a veil of mystery about this negotiation. Or it is simply a necessary waiting due to prior financial commitments. June 30th represents a pivotal date for football clubs. Although Roma may be selling a couple of players before that date, the Giallorossi could be ready to finalize Mancini’s deal right at the beginning of July.
Atalanta’s Mancini is not only a great prospect but a talent that is already making an impact in Serie A. Although his price-tag would be very high, about €25 million, the 23-year-old would be a great addition to Paulo Fonseca‘s side. The Italian defender from Pontedera made 35 caps and scored 6 goals and 1 assist during the 2018-19 campaign.
