Former Milan coach Gattuso could be an unexpected candidate for the Roma job. Totti may be sponsoring him.
Roma is still looking for a new coach willing to lead a talented group towards a technical and tactical rebirth. Although Paulo Fonseca is reportedly a serious candidate, Gattuso could surprise everyone and land in the eternal city.
Could he be the right coach for the Giallorossi?
His performance at Milan was not disappointing last campaign. Gattuso led a group with many youngsters and failed to qualify to the next edition of the Champions League ending the season just one point behind their city rivals Inter.
Now that his adventure with the Rossoneri is over, Gattuso would be willing to go ahead with his professional career without stopping for a sabbatical year.
In a recent interview with Sky Sport, he clearly stated that he would be ready to start a new adventure. “We are a group of professionals in which I make choices and I share them [with his staff]. We have to analyze what we want to do. We want to go ahead coaching but we need a club that chooses us and understands our characteristics.”
Roma may be that club. As Pallotta stated in his open letter to Roma fans, “On Thursday, I witnessed the continuing maturation of Francesco as a director. His insight and expertise with me and Guido [Fienga], discussing a potential manager, was more helpful than input from anybody else.”
The American investor may have unveiled a possible idea, Gennaro Gattuso. And the Italian coach may be the name mentioned by Totti in the last conference call held by Roma executives.
Although Fonseca is reportedly in the race to sit on the Roma bench next season, Gattuso could be the Italian counterpart able to satisfy the fans and clearly communicate with the players. The former Italian international also knows the tough dynamics of Serie A. That would definitely be another advantage over the Portuguese coach.
