The captain of the Lupi is still a role model for his teammates and he has shown his love for Roma many times over the years. Roberto Mancini can confirm his incredible passion for the giallorossi.
There are a few players out there that can not be bought for any amount in the world. Roma have been lucky over the years. Francesco Totti has enchanted the audiences around the world with his class and typically Roman frankness. Then Daniele De Rossi with his wiseness and tactical and dialectical wisdom.
Although many top clubs had approached the Italian midfielder over the years, De Rossi did not want to betray his beloved team and city. As the coach of the Italian national team has confirmed to the Italian newspaper Il Messaggero, he had tried to take him to Manchester City but the Roma captain had turned the offer down at last minute.
“We met in Rome and we talked all night. It was al set up [a deal to join Manchester City] but it failed at the last moment. He called me and said ‘I cannot make it’. I was upset and angry,” said Mancini. “Daniele was at the top of his career. He would have had fun with us. He would have been a fundamental player for me.”
De Rossi demonstrated once again that Roma is not just a club but a visceral love.
