Former Roma defender Nicolas Burdisso knows that Roma and Zenit are chasing Barrios. The Argentine confirms that a player must be traded out soon.
There are rules in football that cannot be bypassed, that on the limit of foreign players is one of those. In the past few days, football pundits were pointing out that Boca Juniors are forced to sell a player. Nandez should have been the one ready to go but, as Burdisso confirmed in a recent interview, “Nandez’s negotiation has failed.”
The other possible departure is, therefore, Wilmar Barrios. Zenit and Roma are competing for his acquisition. Although Boca Juniors’ sporting director Nicolas Burdisso has not clearly stated that Barrios will leave, the former Roma defender knows that his midfielder could be starting a new professional adventure in the next few hours.
“We have inherited this situation regarding the limit of foreign players. Nandez’s sale was almost finalized but it suddenly failed,” said Burdisso to TNT Sports. “The decision we make is not about the hierarchy or the sporting side, but only due to this rule. It is not necessary to sell, though. We could also trade a player on loan. We have the obligation to free-up a spot and we must do it in the best possible way. We will define everything together with our coach.”
