Cengiz Under is Monchi’s top pick since his arrival in the Italian capital. Roma enjoy their great Turkish talent.
The year is almost over and this is the moment to summarize Cengiz Under’s impact at Roma.
The 21-year-old right-winger joined the giallorossi in summer 2017. Although the fans of the Lupi had never heard and seen anything about him, the Turk stunned everyone for his personality and quality.
In the 2017-18 campaign, Cengiz Under played 26 games albeit only 15 as a starter with an average of 48′ minutes played per game.
The youngster was able to score 7 goals in his first year close to the Colosseum with a 179′ min scoring frequency.
His 74% of accurate passes per game, 61% of successful dribbles, and 42% of duels won highlighted that the Turkish elf was a prodigious flower ready to blossom.
The young Turkey international is confirming his qualities in the current season as well. Although Di Francesco‘s side is not as efficient as it was, Under has been able to excite the Roma fans several times.
In the 2018-19 campaign, the winger has already played 17 matches (14 as a starter) with an average of 69′ min per game. He scored only 3 goals though, and as EDF stated yesterday after the Serie A away win against Parma, the Roma offensive players must be more efficient in front of the net.
Although his current scoring frequency is not good (493′ min), Under seems to be more involved in the offensive phase and prone to make a difference on the right-flank.
His passing accuracy has improved to (80%) as well as the duels won per game (51%).
“Cengiz has improved a lot,” stated Di Francesco. “Now he is able to attack in depth and find the right spaces. But, in my opinion, he still doesn’t score enough. He has a great potential. I hope that next year he can score all the goals missed so far.“
