The Roma winger ranked third in the Kopa Trophy, the Under 21 Ballon d’Or. Justin Kluivert is ready to blossom but van de Looi pushes him to give his best from now on.
Last summer, Roma spent a relevant amount to bring Justin Kluivert to the Italian capital. The former Ajax man has undisputed qualities but he must improve to make a difference in the tough Italian championship.
In the Kopa Trophy, the Under 21 Ballon d’Or, the Dutch prodigy ranked third just behind Borussia Dortmund‘s Pulisic and PSG‘s Kylian Mbappé.
Kluivert seems to be a prospect of a brilliant star. “He knows himself and his talent, but this does not mean everything,” said the Dutch U-21 coach Erwin van de Looi to Algemeen Dagblad as reported by the Italian outlet ForzaRoma.info. “When you’re at the top, you have to show it every week and he’s on the right path. He really wants to play for the major national team and this desire must help him to perform well at Roma too.”
“His move to the Italian capital has been planned albeit it is not the easiest route. But he is working hard and is very positive. He is playing more and more. This motivates him because there is so much competition in Rome. In Italy, you cannot take care only of the offensive phase but you must work hard defensively as well otherwise you’ll sit on the bench.”
“We do not know how strong he can be. He can score with both feet and he’s very fast. Now we have to see how he will use these characteristics. He has a lot of confidence and I hope he will reach his maximum,” concluded van de Looi.
