The Bosnian Decline, When 5 Months Change Everything

Edin Dzeko | AS Roma

Although Edin Dzeko is the best player in the Roma roster, the Bosnian star is passing through a tough moment. The Lupi need his goals but now things are not going well.

This is the harsh law that affects all strikers. If you don’t score goals, you are blamed. If you do your job, instead, you will be acclaimed.

When things do not go well, a striker is the first responsible. Thanks to his goals, Edin Dzeko dragged Roma during the 2017-18 campaign. His past performances on the European stage were simply fantastic. But the current situation is different. Dzeko is suffering from the ups and downs of the team and his efficiency has fallen to historical lows.

By analyzing the matches played in the 2018-19 campaign and by focussing our attention on a parameter called ‘Scoring Efficiency‘, we can definitely say that the Bosnian is in decline together with his Roma.

These figures highlight that the Roma offensive players have been very unproductive so far. Being the most important player, Dzeko can be blamed even more than his teammates. According to these data, Stephan El Shaarawy scored a goal every 176 minutes. The Italian-Egyptian winger is the most productive offensive player of the giallorossi.

Obviously, these numbers are taking into consideration the matches played by each player. Their scoring efficiency is based on the minutes played since the beginning of the 2018-19 season. In light of that, Javier Pastore is the second player mentioned on this ranking. The Argentine threw a ball in the back of the net every 193 minutes.

Surprisingly, Alessandro Florenzi is on the podium having scored a goal every 365 minutes. But the remarkable performance of the Italian fullback puts the Bosnian star even more in the shade. In fact, Edin Dzeko is currently sitting in the 7th position of the ranking having celebrated a goal every 471 minutes.

The decline of the Bosnian striker is even more alarming if we think that Patrick Schick did better than him so far. The Czech striker seems to be sailing in the dark abyss of a stormy sea. But he scored one goal every 367 minutes.
