A very disappointing performance of the giallorossi at the Stadio San Paolo. Napoli dominates the scene embarrassing Di Francesco’s side.
This is not the Roma we were hoping to see this season. The Roma fans are justly very disappointed after the mediocre performance of their hero against Napoli. Although Stephan El Shaarawy had broken the deadlock in the 14th minute, Di Francesco’s side did not have the mental and physical strength to counter the Neapolitan fury.
Roma collected a precious point on the road but it was truly undeserved. Carlo Ancelotti‘s side outperformed the Lupi in every zone of the field throughout the 90 minutes. The partenopei kept the possession of the ball (62% vs 38%) demonstrating a great ability and a solid tactical proficiency. 28 shots on goal, 17 corner kicks, 4 big chances created, and 650 passes with an accuracy of 90% are numbers that should satisfy Ancelotti but worry Eusebio Di Francesco and the Roma managers.
Napoli‘s midfielders have pushed their counterparts back not allowing the giallorossi to keep the possession and create opportunities. The pair De Rossi–Nzonzi have not had the possibility to connect with their offensive teammates but simply operated defensively trying to shield the backline. Ruiz, Hamsik, Allan, and Callejon had been able to set the rhythms of the game ‘punching’ the Lupi from every side.
Roma were at the mercy of Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo. The team seems to have a mediocre and unexplainable physical condition. The European efforts cannot be used as an excuse. Both teams have been busy during the week but while Roma have played at home, Napoli had to travel to Paris to face Neymar‘s side.
The choices made by the Spaniard (Monchi) can be questioned at this time.
