The giallorossi have rejuvenated the roster last summer. Di Francesco must develop the talent of his players.
Roma’s strategy on the market is clear. The club is constantly looking for young and talented players able to improve their skills in the Italian capital.
The giallorossi cannot invest on superstars with high wages but are always willing to make riskier bets. The recent arrivals of Cengiz Under, Justin Kluivert, and Ante Coric testify that Roma sign top-quality youngster in order to develop their talent at Trigoria.
Luca Pellegrini is a product of their youth club. The Lupi have renewed his contract lately. Nowadays, he is working hard shadowing Aleksandar Kolarov.
“Aleksandar is an incredible person. He is a master. He knows how to tell you things. I can only learn and improve with him. I have to steal every little thing from him,” said Luca Pellegrini to the ‘AS Roma match program’ a few days ago.
Roma empower young talents for a brighter future. But the growth path of these players must be gradual.
Justin Kluivert made 1 appearance in the 2018-19 Champions League and scored 1 goal against Viktoria Plzen. He also played 4 Serie A matches with an average of 33 minutes per game and a positive overall rating of 6.80.
Cengiz Under is more than a prospect of talent. Since the beginning of the season, he made 2 caps and scored 1 goal on the European stage. In the current Serie A campaign, instead, he made 6 appearances scoring 1 goal. His overall rating in the Italian championship is a whopping 7.27.
The Croatian jewel Ante Coric has impressed everybody in the Italian summer retreat and during the tour in the USA. He made 2 caps in the International Champions Cup but, since then, the Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco left him on the bench. The talented Croatian has a bright future ahead of him but the Italian coach is gradually training him to favor his leap in quality and play in a super tactical and competitive championship.
We could also talk about Lorenzo Pellegrini (22-year-old) and Bryan Cristante (23) but, nowadays, these two players are already consistently performing on the Italian and international stage. The former Sassuolo midfielder might have found his best role on the field (trequartista). The ex-Atalanta man, instead, is struggling a little more at Roma but his qualities are indisputable.
