The contract of the Italian fullback is set to expire in June 2019 but his doubts about the future convinced Monchi to step ahead for the Croatian Sime Vrsaljko.
It could be a strategic move to convince Alessandro Florenzi to sign a contract extension with his current club but Monchi and Di Francesco are definitely interested in the Croatian right-back Sime Vrsaljko.
The player is currently playing in the World Cup in Russia but, reportedly, the Roma sporting director got in touch with the agents of the player in order to assess the feasibility of this operation.
Other top European sides are chasing the Atletico Madrid defender as well. Roma enters the race challenging Italian rivals Inter and Napoli as well as Premier League powerhouse Manchester United.
Di Francesco knows Vrsaljko very well having trained him at Sassuolo a couple of years ago. The Croatia international has won the Europa League with the Spanish giants.
Although Roma could be seriously interested in bringing Vrsaljko close to the Colosseum, it seems to be a typical strategy of the sporting director Monchi to unlock Alessandro Florenzi’s negotiation. Reportedly, the Roman guy would be happier if the Giallorossi would accept his economic demand albeit the club of the Italian capital is not willing to fully satisfy the player.
Florenzi’s agents and Monchi should have another meeting in the upcoming week.
