Roma defeats Sassuolo on the road at the MAPEI Stadium in a pre-summer sloppy match. The Lupi confirm the third spot in the standings.
We were expecting a dull match and this is precisely what has come true. Roma traveled to Sassuolo having the qualification for the 2018-19 Champions League in its pockets and albeit Di Francesco pushed his guys to play a great match the summer and pre-holiday mood has taken over.
The Giallorossi got the lead scoring a funny goal with the Greek defender Manolas keeping the advantage until the end and collecting other three points away from the Stadio Olimpico. EDF hit a record leading the Lupi to 12 Serie A wins on the road this season.
This match has been important for the beginning of the next season as well. The Italian coach has been working on the mentality of his guys pushing them to keep the concentration always even when the three points were not really necessary. Roma ended the season having the second best backline of the 2017-18 season.
“We must improve putting the right players for the next season in this roster,” said the Di Francesco to ‘Premium Sport’ right at the end of the match. “We have to improve in the management of the match. Sometimes we leave our midfielders alone and we have to do better in the next season. I like seeing that mentally my roster has improved.”
A new course to restart the next campaign trying to do even better than the 2017-18 season. Roma needs a few new players to improve the quality and creativity of its midfield line. Players a little more dynamic with the right quality and touch for the final assist. The Lupi have created several chances to score but the amount of goals made is definitely unsatisfactory. Schick must improve and the left flank needs a player able to score more goals. El Shaarawy and Perotti played a good season but Di Francesco wants something better on that side. Dzeko should be confirmed unless Monchi will be able to bank consistently on a 32-year-old.
