The 2017-18 season is over. This is the moment to wrap up pros and cons of a positive campaign.
The Giallorossi have played their last Serie A match of the season collecting the 12th victory away from the Stadio Olimpico. The game against Sassuolo confirmed that the Roma roster needs a little retouch to improve in competitiveness next year.
Although the Lupi got the third position in the standings and a deserved qualification for the Champions League, the gap with Juventus and Napoli has been to wide to fully satisfy the fans.
The management, though, firmly believe that Di Francesco wisely led the team throughout the season. Highs and lows are normal over a 10 months period but the Italian coach wants a better roster to win as soon as possible.
“I’m very proud to train this team. My contract renewal is not an issue. We will find an agreement easily. I want to win with Roma but the change in mentality is a little success as well,” said Di Francesco.
His contract is set to expire next year but the management is ready to negotiate an extension as confirmed by the Roma general manager Mauro Baldissoni. “We are talking with Eusebio about strategies to grow and we share the same ideas. We want to go ahead together.”
Therefore the roster must be strengthened during the upcoming transfer window. Monchi knows what to do but Alisson’s departure could be an issue. “He is staying with us”, firmly confirmed Di Francesco.
Even the Roma sporting director reassured the fans and the Italian coach about the future of the Brazil international. “He could leave only if I’ll decide to play as a goalkeeper again. But now I’m not feeling ready for that,” stated Monchi.
Apparently, there’s a total agreement between the parties involved in shaping the Roma future.
