Liverpool kicked Roma out of the Champions League albeit the Giallorossi scored 4 goals and the referee Skomina made a few bold mistakes.
Roma defeated Liverpool 4-2 at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday but they failed to qualify for the UCL final in Kiev. Di Francesco‘s men made a great performance nullified by the Slovenian referee who denied two penalties to the Lupi.
The match could have ended differently in Rome. The Giallorossi tried to make a historic comeback against the British side but they ended the clash furious against the referee.
Roma sporting director Monchi accused Skomina in the post-match interviews.
“We suffered a goal in a clear offside position in the first match. Today, we count two penalties and a red card against Liverpool. What happened is unbelievable,” stated the Spaniard to ‘Premium Sport’. “In football, episodes change everything. Italian football must protest against this.”
Monchi also pointed his finger against UEFA for not using the VAR technology in the Champions League. “I don’t understand why the VAR is not implemented in the most important competition. Our players are angry because they deserved more today. I hope the VAR will be used next year. The penalties would have changed everything. However, congratulations to Liverpool,” concluded the Roma sporting director.
